WINSTON OGLESBY
Thomas Winston Oglesby, age 94, of Columbus, MS, passed away July 14, 2020, at his residence. A graveside service will be Saturday, July 18, 2020, at 1:00 PM at Friendship Cemetery with Rev. Jearl Hunley and Rev. Tim Hudson officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 12:45 PM at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory 903 College St. location.
Mr. Oglesby was born April 24, 1926, in Columbus, MS, to the late Thomas Massey and Lily Robinson Oglesby. He served in the United States Navy and retired as a lieutenant from the Columbus Police Department after 26 years. Mr. Oglesby also retired from the Lowndes County Sheriffs Department after 30 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lena McWilliams Oglesby.
Survivors include his nephew, Joe McWilliams and his wife Debby of Caledonia, MS, brothers, Louie “Pete” Hal Oglesby of Los Angeles, CA, and Marvin Ray Oglesby and his wife Judy of Brandon, MS, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Frank Creel, Gary Franks, Don Hudson, Billy Pickens, Eddie Strickland, and Wayne Blankenship.
Honorary pallbearers will be past and present judges, past and present bailiffs, and past and present members of the Columbus Police Department and Lowndes County Sheriffs Department.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
