William Blair

December 6, 1938 — August 14, 2023

William “Billy” Travis Blair, a beloved figure in his community, passed away on August 14, 2023, at the age of 84. He was born on December 6, 1938, to Francis Dewey and Emma Laura Jumper Blair. He is reunited in death with his parents and siblings, Alfred Blair, Robert Wesley Blair, and Mary Emma Blair Basinger. William was also preceded in death by his devoted spouse of 54 years, Margaret Elizabeth Smith Blair.

A proud graduate of Caledonia High School in 1957, William's dedication to his work was evident throughout his life. He spent 5 years at Columbus Airforce Base and followed with 15 years at Fletcher Oil. His commitment led to a fulfilling 26-year career at Sanders Oil, where he retired in 2003.

William's spiritual journey was closely tied to his community. A faithful member of the Caledonia United Methodist Church since 1945, he found solace and connection in his faith.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, David Blair (Misty), Wesley Blair, and Amy Blair Crews (Vincent). He was a devoted grandfather to Abagale Blair McMahan (Cody) and Greyson Blair. He welcomed the joy of his great-granddaughter, Darcy Elizabeth McMahan, into his heart. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great -nephews.

Beyond his professional achievements, William had a zest for life and a range of hobbies. He found solace in hunting, tackling tractor work, fishing, cooking with the Soco Gas Hogs and most importantly, spending cherished moments with his family and grandchildren.

William Travis Blair's presence touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, love for family, and dedication to his community. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
