Virgil E. Ashmore, 93, of Columbus, MS passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025. Virgil was born July 27, 1931, in Pickens County, Al to Fred and Teereather Ashmore.
He was married to the love of his life, Lois Rea Ashmore, now deceased, for 71 years. They had two children, Mitzi and Duane, and resided in Columbus, MS most of their married lives. Virgil had a profound love for his family and his country. He served his country in the U.S. Army where he was also a Korean War Veteran. He also served in the National Guard and later retired from United Technologies after 30 plus years.
Virgil enjoyed spending time traveling the country with his wife over the years in their camper and meeting up with friends and family during their travels. He also had a love for true country music, especially his all-time favorite, Hank Williams.
Virgil is preceded in death by his wife, Lois Rea Ashmore, parents, Fred and Teereather Ashmore, sister, Arlene Ashmore, and brother, Leon Ashmore.
He is survived by his daughter, Mitzi Hatcher (Steve), his son, Duane Ashmore (Carol), and his sister Eva Jadzinski (Frank). He leaves four grandsons, Chad Baird (Jeri Lynn), Bradley Baird, Dustin Ashmore (Amanda), and Neil Jones. Five great grandchildren, Seth Baird, Zacharie Jones, Olivia Reese Baird, Isaac Ashmore, and Andrew Ashmore.
Friends & family will serve as pallbearers
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, January 9, 2025, with visitation one hour prior to the service at Memorial Funeral Home, burial with U.S. Army Honors will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
