Tommy Beatty, Jr.

William Thomas "Tommy" Beatty, Jr., 76, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at his residence in Columbus.  A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at 3:00 pm at The Church of the Nazarene.  Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 pm at the church. Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.

Mr. Beatty was born on March 5, 1947 in Columbus, MS to the late William Thomas Beatty, Sr. and Idell Dowdle Beatty.  He was a member of The Church of the Nazarene and retired from Columbus Light & Water.  Tommy loved his grandkids, gardening, quail hunting, and crappie fishing.  He married his beloved wife, Donna Carter Beatty in 1982.

In addition to his parents, Tommy is preceded in death by his two sisters, Billie Bernstien and Betty Courtney.  He is survived by his wife 42 years, Donna Beatty of Columbus;  daughters, Shelley Strickland (Teddy) of Columbus and Becky Janssen (David) of Columbus; son, Grant Davis (Amanda) of Columbus; seven grandchildren, Seth Swails (Hannah), Devin Swails, T.J. Davis (Ashlie), Cayden Davis, Kara Sides, Elizabeth Janssen, and Jaxen Davis; and two great grandchildren, Juniper Swails and Charlie Davis.

Honorary pallbearers are Billy Wood, Teddy Strickland, David Janssen, Seth Swails, Devin Swails, T.j. Davis, Cayden Davis, and Jaxen Davis.
