Jackie Ford

Thyra Jacqueline “Jackie ” Ford , of Monroe, LA, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2020 at Savannah Court in Bastrop, LA at the age of 68.

Jackie was born May 26, 1952 , in Columbus, MS to the late Thyra Owens Ford and Thomas Jackson Ford , Jr. She graduated from S.D. Lee High School, Columbus , MS in 1970. Jackie would later receive her BA in Elementary Education with a minor in Library Science from the University of Louisiana at Monroe where she also earned a Masters Degree. She was a life long member of North Monroe Baptist Church in Monroe, LA.

Jackie retired from Monroe City Schools where she served as the Librarian at Cypress Point Elementary School. She was beloved by her students and fellow teachers. Jackie was known for her witty humor, lifelong love of dance, and her generous spirit . Her passion for reading inspired and instilled a love of reading in her children and countless number of her students.

Jackie is survived by her children – Jen nifer Neely (David) Morland , of Wrexham , Wales, UK, and Justin (Amy) Higdon of Monroe, LA. She is also survived by her siblings - Tommy Ford , Columbus, MS, Terry (Lee) Ford, Columbus, MS, T im (Veronica) Ford, La Bec , CA, and Tamy (Robert) Holmes, Louisville, KY . In addition, she will be deeply missed by her N ieces - Annie, Sarah Grace and Maggie Holmes and Nephews – Jack, Andrew, and Will Ford, all of whom she had a very special and close relationship.

A Private Graveside service will be held for family and close friends Saturday, August 8, 2020, 10:30 AM at Friendship Cemetery in Columbus, MS, with her lifelong frien d Rev. Curtis Bray  officiating. Pallb earers will be family and friends with Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home directing the service .

In lieu of flowers, the Family has requested m emorials may be made in Jackie’s name to PAWS of NE Louisiana, P O Box 15432, Monroe, LA 71207, ( 318 ) 397- 0007 , [email protected] , as she was very fond of volunteering with this organization.
