Thelma L. Campbell, 81, of Columbus passed away on May 27th after a brief illness. She was born on December 5th, 1939 in Macon, MS. Thelma is survived by her daughter Constance (Randy) Wade of West Monroe, LA; her granddaughter Valerie (Gabriel) Garcia and great grandson Rowan of Saginaw, Texas and Grandson Bradley (Marion) Wade of Mesquite, Texas. She is also survived by her sister Evelyn Smith of Columbus and her niece Ginger (Derek) Sparkman of Macon, MS.
Thelma was a retired schoolteacher. She taught Special Education in Brooksville, MS until retirement. She attended college at Mississippi State College for Women (later Mississippi University for Women) where she obtained a master's degree, she was a member of Hwy 69 Church of Christ. Thelma's interests included listening to classical music, reading and the arts. She read her Bible almost daily. She was a Red Hatter in her earlier days. She was an excellent swimmer and she loved her little dog, Ronnie.
Thelma was preceded in death by her mother Golden Edwards and father John Sharp Edwards of Macon.
A visitation will be held Tuesday June 1, 2021 from 10am to 12noon at the 716 2nd Ave N location of Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory followed by a graveside service Tuesday at Shuqualak City Cemetery, Shuqualak , MS at 2 pm. Brother Jay Street of Hwy 69 Church of Christ officiating.
The family would like to thank the sweet members of Hwy 69 church of Christ for keeping in touch with mom when she came to stay closer to family in West Monroe. We would also like to thank Mickey and Linda Biloni for being available for mom. You went above and beyond.
