Stephen Marshall Ferguson, age 66, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at his home in Conyers, GA. Stephen was born in Columbus, MS on May 5, 1955 to James Lloyd Ferguson and Annie Vaughn Ferguson. He was an accomplished musician on the piano and organ. He loved music and playing. Of course, that came naturally as his mother and dad, and both sets of grandparents were also musically talented. Stephen’s grandparents owned J. Rigg Vaughn Piano Company and Ferguson Barber & Beauty Shop in Columbus. During his high school years, he played keyboards in the bands ‘Everybody and His Brother’(in which his brother Rigg played guitar), and later with ‘Wayne Gibson & The Rhythm Rockers’. Eventually moving to the Atlanta area in his early 20’s, he continued with music along with doing studio session work in Birmingham, AL. The group Alabama asked him to tour with them but he declined for various reasons. Eventually, he had to give up music and playing due to Carpal Tunnel and became self-employed as a master electrician.
Stephen is survived by his wife Susan; son Lloyd Ferguson(Caitlin) of Athens, GA; brother Rigg Ferguson(Jan) of Milan, TN; cousins and nieces. He is preceded in death by both parents. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Woodlawn Cemetery, Steens, MS on Hwy 12 outside of Columbus.
