Sigga S. Head

Sigridur "Sigga" Sesselja Head, age 84, of Columbus, MS, passed away May 1, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.  A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.  Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Head was born May 24, 1938, in Reykjavik Iceland to the late Sigurdur Arni Gudmundsson and Johanna Gudmundsdottir.  She made up her mind at age 10 that she would come to America and at the age of 18, she finally arrived in the state of Massachusetts.  She's since lived in locales including Louisiana, Germany, Texas, and California.  At points along the way, she had a dress shop, and even ran a restaurant near Sacramento, a place where her genuine enjoyment of people and entertaining was a decided asset.  The traits smoothly translated to Columbus, MS, to a supper club, a luncheon club, garden club, Friends and Neighbors, and her involvement with CAFB international spouses and the Military Officers Association.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John Kristofer Smartt and Robert's son, Robert "Robbie" William Head.

Survivors include her husband, Robert of Columbus, MS, his 3 daughters, Julie Combs (E. Wayne) of Fernandina Beach, FL, Joni Grady (Gary) of St. Mary's, GA, and Rhonda Cline (Bobby) of Mandarin, FL, her daughter, Susan Yaple (Robert) of Niceville, FL, daughter-in-law, Kathy Smartt of Melborne, FL, grandchildren, Danielle Thomas (Jason) of Valparaiso, FL, Kristofer Yaple of Valparaiso, FL, John Smartt (Alisia) of Springfield, VA, and Katie Smartt of Yorktown, VA, great grandchildren, Archer and Amelia, and her three Icelandic brothers, Porir (Hjordis), Arsaell (Eria), and Siggi (Erla).
