Scott Gault, of Starkville and formerly Columbus, died April 6th. Scott lived a life full of friendships and family, with always an open door at his house where he was cooking on the grill, had ready a platter of appetizers, as well as a refrigerator full of supplies for any age that visited. He is survived by his mother, Nina Gault of Crestview Florida, brothers Patrick Gault and his wife, Kathy of Crestview, FL and Nick Gault of Fort Walton, FL,  niece, Nathalie Putt and her husband Brian of Mobile, AL and nephew Nicholas Gault, also of FL. He was preceded in death by his father, Archie B Gault, Jr.

In reality “Uncle Scott” had many nieces and nephews. Most of his lifelong friends remained in Columbus after attending S.D. Lee High School then college together, and their children loved to visit Uncle Scott’s house, where there was always a Capri Sun available, as well as a few bowls of candy to be had, with the parents' permission, of course. Nothing was better than when Nathalie and Nicholas were born, and they became the most frequent visitors to Scott’s grilling porch. Scott also visited their classrooms over the years with birthday lunches and cupcakes, and boxes of needed supplies for their teachers.

Ten years ago, Scott decided to pursue his gift in retail where he successfully worked selling clothing when he was younger, but this time he would open his own fine wine and liquor store, Scotty’s Wine and Spirits in Starkville. The store was met with immediate success (as we all knew it would) and Scott built a clientele that knew where to go to receive the best wine recommendations and select from a variety of liquors. Customer service was Scott’s forte.

Scott’s kindness went far beyond his doting on friends and family through his work with Camp Rising Sun. He volunteered his time at the camp as an overnight counselor for years and even held the Director position for a time. Scott continued to promote and support Camp Rising Sun through his life, and we believe his wish would be for those wanting to honor Scott to make donations in his memory to Camp Rising Sun, P O Box 8241, Columbus MS 39705 . Or via the web site donor portal at www.camprisingsunms.com

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 23rd at 1:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Columbus. Family and close friends will attend the internment at the church columbarium. Afterwards, there will be a celebration and remembrance of Scott’s humble and giving life at Harveys in Columbus where everyone is invited.
