Mrs. Sadie Fant went to be with Jesus Friday, September 30, 2022 at her son’s residence in Columbus. Services will be held Tuesday October 4, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home Chapel; burial will follow at Greenlawn Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from noon until service time at the funeral home. Sh e was born January 26, 1933 in the Euclatubba Community of Lee County, MS, to Samuel Hoyle Patton and Mary Francis Parker Patton. Sadie graduated from Cedar Hill High. She continued her studies at Mississippi State College for Women where she received her bachelors, masters and specialist degrees in education and speech pathology. She worked in education for twenty-eight years before retiring in 1991 to spend time with family and to travel with her husband Arnold on their motorcycles. Sadie was a long-time member of First Baptist church and enjoyed helping in their programs. Sadie also helped break barriers by being one of the first women in Columbus to ride motorcycles and becoming one of the first female officers of the Columbus Police Auxiliary in the early seventies. She worked part time as a Disaster Assistance Employee with FEMA traveling to the U.S. Virgin Islands to help the inhabitants of Saint Thomas and Saint Croix put their lives back to together after Hurricane Marilyn. In addition, Sadie also volunteered to help supervise the Columbus Police Explorer Scouts,

Sadie is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Hoyle and Mary Francis Patton, her husband Arnold, One grandson, William (Bill) Prestridge, one great granddaughter, Kayla Prestridge.

She is survived by her children Frances Yarbrough (Ronnie), Richard Fant (Wendylyn), grandchildren Carrie Hollis (Ray), Parker Yarbrough, Amanda Hennessey (Neal), Nell Grant and Pam Sutton, nine great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, six nieces and four nephews, one sister, Gloria Hendrix (Howard), two brothers, Tommy Patton (Jo Ann), William Patton (Idella),

Pallbearers will be: Parker Yarbrough, Ray Hollis, Austin Hollis, James McMillen, Ronald Ward, and Carroll Culpepper.

Honorary Pallbearers: Sean Southard, and Owen Hollis.
