ROBERT B. BORDEN

Robert Benjamin Borden age, 73 died peacefully into the arms of Jesus Sunday, April 21, 2019 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Columbus, due to complications of a rare neuro degenerative disease. Typical of Robert, he chose the glorious day of Easter to meet his Savior!

Visitation for friends and family will be Thursday, April 25 th from 10:00 am until 12:00 at Annunciation Catholic Church, services will follow immediately with Father Jeffery Waldrep officiating; burial will follow at Memorial Gardens of Columbus.

Born on Wednesday, August 08, 1945 in Tupelo, MS, Robert was the son of two wonderful parents who predeceased him, Clayton Benjamin and Marguerite Harris Borden. He grew up with his twin brother and a trove of cousins and friends in Plantersville, MS and is fondly remembered for many of his “amusing” antics.

Robert moved to Columbus and worked for APAC until his retirement. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, with a huge sense of humor, which instilled life changing values to all of us. He was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying fishing and hunting. Robert also took great pride in preserving nature through the art of taxidermy. He reveled in sharing his love and respect for the outdoors with his boys and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jackie Tubb Borden, two sons, Dr. Joseph O. Sams (Shelby), of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Dr. Robert Clayton “Clay” Borden (Amber), of Columbus. Robert was also blessed with eight grandchildren; Winn Michael Sams, Reese Carson Sams, Jake Ozburn Sams, Avery Elise Sams, all of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Massey Gracen Borden, Maylen Asher Borden, Arie Clayton Borden, and Ames Benjamin Borden, all of Columbus. Robert is also survived by his brother, Richard Borden of Foley, Alabama, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
