Richard N. (Rick) Humphreys died on October 1, 2019, at his home.

Mr. Humphreys was born November 3, 1926, in Memphis, TN to the late Robert Baxter & Ruby Hughes Humphreys. He was also preceded in death by his sister Ruby Humphreys Hawkins and Billie Hickman Humphreys, the mother of his two daughters.

Services will be held Friday October 4, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Columbus with Dr. Joe McKeever officiating; burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church.

Upon graduating from Collierville High School in Collierville, TN in 1944, he went on to serve in World War II in the US. Navy Air Force. After the war, he attended the University of Tennessee and Memphis State College, graduating in 1948. From there he moved to Columbus and worked for Maxwell House Coffee and General Foods Corporation. Six years later he entered the insurance and real estate businesses. Mr. Humphreys retired in 1997 as a Life member of the Appraisal Institute.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, having served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher in both the Youth and Children’s departments. He was a past member of the Rotary Club and served the Columbus community as a director of the Columbus Public Housing Authority, and as board member of the Columbus Light and Water Department. He was an avid golfer, having competed for years with and against his many golfing friends in the Senior Golf Association, the Columbus Country Club and Waverly Golf Club.

Mr. Humphreys is survived by his daughters, Patricia Garner (Bill) of Fredericksburg, VA and Allison Jones (Charlie) of Vonore, TN; his brother Robert H. Humphreys of Collierville, TN and sister Sara Davis of Overland Park, KS; his grandchildren Richard Garner and Anna Franich (Mark) of Fredericksburg, VA, Billie Hope Jones of Chattanooga, TN; and his great-granddaughter Jessica Franich.

Mr. Humphreys is also survived by his wife, Ann Marie Patton Brown Humphreys, and his stepsons and their families: Dr. Brad Brown (Sandra), Bryan Brown (Jeanna), Dr. Brett Brown (Sara), Russell Brown, and Michelle Brown; his step-grandchildren: Glenn Brown, Brennan Brown, Emery Brown, Lyon Brown (Shelby), Hunter Brown (Elaine), Lauren Brown (Peter), Walker Brown, Robert Brown, Georgiana Brown, Patton Brown, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers are Bill Blair, Dr. Cecil Boswell, Bunk Harpole, Jay Jordan, John Latham, Si Thomas Ed Lott, and  Toby Lott.  Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Boozier, George Boyd, Bobby Caldwell, Frank Griffin, Fred Hall, Steve Holcomb, Ken Kennedy, Steve McEwen, and Bob Reynolds.
