August 3, 1946 - April 25, 2023

Richard Stanley Brown died Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family

following a courageous battle with cancer.

Richard was born on August 3, 1946, at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois to the late Albert and

Elsie Brown. Being in a military family, Richard lived in various places during his childhood including

Illinois, Germany, Arizona and Arkansas. His family moved to Columbus, MS when Richard's father was

assigned to Columbus Air Force Base. He was a graduate of S.D.Lee High School and attended

Mississippi State University.

Richard was the former Vice President of Sanders Oil Company where he served on several oil

industry boards in various capacities. He also served on the board of Columbus Light & Water

and was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he once served as Deacon.

In addition to family, spending time with friends brought Richard great joy . He enjoyed

competing in BBQ contests such as Pig Fest and Memphis in May as well as faithfully cheering

on the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Richard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Frances Andrews Brown; a daughter Betsy Gee of

Columbus, MS; son Andrew Brown (Lindsey) of Brentwood, TN; and daughter Katie Bishop

Hughes (Ryan) of Scott, MS; brothers Gary Brown (Becky) of Caledonia, MS and Tom Brown;

and six grandchildren, Max and Kate Scott Gee, Blake and Henry Brown, and Gardner and Mary

Brown Hughes.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 29 in the parlor of First Presbyterian Church at 1:00 p.m.with services

following at 2pm in the sanctuary. The family requests that memorials be made to First

Presbyterian Church, 3200 Bluecutt Road, Columbus, MS, 39705.
