OTIS RICHARDSON
Otis Lee Richardson, age 89, of Columbus, MS, passed away August 25, 2020, at his residence. Funeral services will be Friday, August 28, 2020, at 10:00 AM at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel, 716 2 nd Ave. North location with Rev. James Black and Rev. Ron Thomas officiating. The interment will follow at 1:00 PM at North Union Cemetery in Bellefontaine, MS.
Mr. Richardson was born October 13, 1930, in Bellefontaine, MS, to the late Joe Evans and Christine Pounds Richardson. He served in the United States Air Force and served 18 months in Germany. Otis Lee married his wife, Pat, while he was stationed at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, TX. He was a farmer and cattleman until they moved to Columbus, MS, in 1963 and put in Shirley’s Minit Mart on Hwy 45 North. He went into the laundry business later in life and owned Coin-Op-Laundry. He was listed in Who’s Who in Mississippi in 1974 and Outstanding Americans in the South in 1975. He was loved and respected by so many he had helped.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Simmons, brother, Billy Richardson, and nephews, Frankie Simmons, John Simmons, and Andy Bill Smith.
He leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Pat Richardson, son, Richard Richardson, grandson, Joseph Richardson, and great grandsons, Justin Richardson and Gavin Richardson.
Pallbearers will be Justin Richardson, Gavin Richardson, Bo Harris, Jay Harris, Drew Stanton, and Douglas Scallions.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Kindred Hospice and Vanette Gunter for their compassion and care during Mr Richardson's illness.
