Neola McMinn Hildreth, age 90, of Columbus, MS, passed away July 31, at her home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home with Rev. James Black officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Beersheba Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, August 3, 2023, from 10:00 to 11:00 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hildreth was born September 6, 1932, in Sturgis, MS to the late Shed Hill and Annie Lou McMinn. She was a graduate of Sturgis High School. She worked at Rhett Real Estate and Wheeler Roofing. Neola met her husband Carl Melbourn “Buck” Hildreth at the A&P Grocery Store. They were married December 20, 1952. Together they raised their family in Columbus, MS. They enjoyed camping, traveling, and growing vegetables in her garden. She enjoyed preparing meals for her family and having everyone together. Buck was a beekeeper for many years. After his passing she and her son, continued to sell honey at the honey stand. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Columbus, where she was involved with the Love-in-Deed ministry for a number of years.
Neola was preceded in death by her father Shed Hill McMinn; her mother Annie Lou McMinn; her husband of 63 years, Carl “Buck” Melbourn Hildreth; her sister Margaret Hester of Starkville, MS.
Survivors include her brother, William “Pete” McMinn of Sturgis, MS; daughter, Ann Schoggen of Clinton, MS; son, Jimmy Hildreth and his wife Dona of Columbus, MS; grandchildren, Carley Schoggen Marett (Allen) of Clinton, MS; Will Schoggen (Pamela) of Clinton, MS; Phil Schoggen (Miranda) of Brandon, MS; Lauren Hildreth Barksdale (Kenneth) of Steens, MS; and Wesley Hildreth (Tiffaney) of Columbus, MS; and great grandchildren, Murphy Schoggen, Macy Kate Schoggen, Fen Schoggen, Colton Barksdale, Emerson Barksdale, Wyatt Hildreth, Chance Hildreth, and Greydon Hildreth; and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Colton Barksdale, Emerson Barksdale, Kenneth Barksdale, Wesley Hildreth, Allen Marett, Murphy Schoggen, Phil Schoggen, and Will Schoggen.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
