Minnie Josephine (Jo) Holloway Lowdermilk Buck

Jo Lowdermilk Buck (95) passed gracefully on Mother’s Day at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center, Foley, Alabama. Jo Buck was an active community resident of Memphis, TN and Olive Branch, MS until 2010 when she joined her children in Gulf Shores, Alabama.. She loved her hometown of Bemis, TN and graduated J.W. Young High School in 1944. She received her degree in nursing from The Methodist School of Nursing in Memphis, TN 1947. Jo the RN was married to the late Steve Lowdermilk and she was very active in the lives of their four children Melvin Lowdermilk, Larry Lowdermilk, Karen Milton, and Karey Morton.
After the early death of her first husband Steve, Jo married Kermit Buck and welcomed her second family including Kermit’s daughter Helen Buck Salmon and Husband Tom and their children Sally, Mary Laura and Griff. In addition, Kermit’s son the late Eddie, his wife Sandra and their two daughters Helen and Heather. Jo Buck (Miss Jo) continued her devotion to the many programs the Church offered its youth as an MYF leader, Den mother, and Girl Scout Leader.
Outside the Church Joe Buck revered her country and was very active in the Republican Party. She actively campaigned for candidates of all levels of government and especially those candidates that would make her community a better place to live. Jo Buck was proud to receive recognition from President George Bush, Olive Branch Mayor, Sam Rikard, and the Mississippi Republican Party.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Lessie Holloway, husband and kind father to all Kermit Buck, her son Larry Lowdermilk, brothers and sister- in- laws Charles and Eva Holloway, James and Sue Holloway, and her sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Lew Leuders .
Jo will be remembered as Granny Jo by her devoted Grand Children Trey and Kimberly Morton, children of Everett and Karey Morton of Orange Beach, Al. Jessica Simpson, Matthew Edwards, Michael Edwards, Danny Reynolds, children of Melvin and Vicki Lowdermilk of Gulf Shores. Aunt Jo had often bragged about her many direct, her great, her great- great, and possibly her great- great –great nieces and nephews.
Miss Jo has called upon some of her dearest young friends and family to assist in the ceremony. Laura Braddock to make her beautifully presentable to our Lord and Savior. Thompsen Guth, James Jetton, Trey Morton, Everett Morton, Griff Salmon, and William Kenner will escort Miss Jo as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will include Wayne Kenner, Tom Salmon, Sam Rikard, and Gene Stallings.
A graveside ceremony is planned for May 22nd at Forrest Hill Cemetery Midtown, 1661 Elvis Presley Blvd., Memphis, TN. The family requests any memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society.
