Mary Carr Parrish

April 5, 1935 — July 3, 2023

MARY PARRISH
Mary Alice Carr Parrish, neé Cash, born April 5, 1935 in Millport, Alabama left this earth for her eternal home on July 3, 2023 in Tyler, Texas.
A funeral service will be held Sunday July 9, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home Chapel; burial will follow at Memorial Gardens of Columbus. Visitation will be held on hour prior to service at the funeral home.
On December 24, 1954, Mary was joined in marriage to Grover J Carr in Columbus, Mississippi, where they settled their roots. The couple welcomed their eldest daughter, Ramona Kaye, on September 9, 1959 and their youngest, Mary Claire, on April 9, 1965. The family called Bethel Baptist their church home in the early years.
A loyal wife to Grover and loving mother to Mona and Claire, Mary financially contributed to the family economy through her work at the Credit Bureau of Columbus. She was diligent and meticulous, a hard worker who paid attention to detail, and these characteristics are what earned Mary a sales position in the bridal department at Ruth’s Department Store. Her work ethic may have landed her the job, but it was her love of fashion and style and ability to connect with brides far and wide that promoted her to the head of bridal sales.
Mary’s most coveted role as Mawmaw began in 1985 with the welcoming of her eldest grandson, Brandon (Mona). She welcomed two more grandchildren, Kelsey (Mona) and Paxton (Claire), and they brought her palpable joy. That joy only increased with the births of her five great-grandchildren.
On July 18, 2011, after the death of her first husband, Mary married Clinton Eugene Parrish and enjoyed five lovely years of matrimony with Clint.
To know Mary was to know a woman who enjoyed the good and beautiful things in life: family, delicious food, a charming demeanor, fine dress, and lifelong friendships.
Mary is preceded in death by her husbands, Grover and Clint, and her daughter, Mona. She is survived by her daughter, Claire, and husband Jeff; her son-in-law Jim Faber; her grandchildren Brandon (Lauren), Kelsey (Tom), and Paxton (Victoria); great-grandchildren Georgia, Charlie, Hadley (Brandon and Lauren), Benjamin and Caroline (Tom and Kelsey).
Pallbearers will be Brandon Faber, Paxton Jolly, John Coleman, Randall Wiggins, Kenneth Cash, and Merrel Pennington.
