Mary Frances Pleasants Brady, known fondly to many as Malie, passed away peacefully in Columbus, Mississippi at the age of 85 on January 4, 2023 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle
Mary Frances was born on January 28, 1937 to Dorothy and John Pleasants. An only child, Mary Frances was raised in Macon, Mississippi. She was a 1955 graduate of Macon High School. She attended Millsaps College and graduated from the University of Mississippi with a degree in Elementary Education. She was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity. After college, Mary Frances taught school in Memphis, Tennessee before meeting the love of her life, Joseph Armon Brady. They were married in 1960 and settled in Macon, where they went on to have three boys: Joe, John, and James. They were members of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity. While Mary Frances enjoyed traveling and spending time at the horse farm, her greatest joys were her husband and sons. She was a most devoted wife and mother.
Following the death of her husband Joe, Mary Frances and the boys moved to Starkville. A life-long Christian, Mary Frances was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Starkville where she was the first woman to serve on their Vestry. She was also a very active member of the Dancing Rabbit chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution where she served as Regent. She was elected Mississippi DAR Outstanding Member in 1972. Mary Frances worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Mitchell Memorial Library at Mississippi State University and enjoyed her time on the university's campus. An avid sports fan, Mary Frances loved cheering on Ole Miss, MS State and the New England Patriots (always pulling for“Cousin Tom”).
Mary Frances was a true southern lady, and she will be missed and remembered by her family and many friends. Her survivors are two sons: John Donelson Brady (Jennifer) and James McDowell Brady (Caroline) and four grandchildren: Rachel, Hannah, Grace and Jay Brady. In addition to being preceded in death by her parents, Mary Frances was also preceded in death by her husband Joseph Armon Brady, Sr. and their oldest son Joseph Armon Brady, Jr.
