Martha J Moore Gregg, 90, of Columbus, MS. passed away at her residence on June 10, 2021 with her loving husband, Gene, by her side after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born October 20, 1930, in Fulton, MS. Funeral services will be held Saturday June 12, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the 716 2 nd Ave N Chapel of Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Sanderson officiating; burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be held on hour prior to service at the funeral home.
Martha Jo is survived by her husband of 51 years, Byron Eugene Gregg of Columbus, Ms., her son, Bill (Kathy) Gurley of Iuka, Ms., daughter, Emily Gurley Green of Iuka, Ms., brother-in-law, Frank Dulaney of Tyler, Tx., step-son, Timothy (Theresa) Gregg of Columbus, Ms., step-daughter, Barbara Gregg Myers of New Orleans, La. Martha Jo also leaves behind four grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, six step grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Martha Jo will be missed by her beloved poodle, Chip.
Martha Jo is preceded in death in death by father, Floyd Moore, mother, Ally Mae Moore, brother, L. C. Moore, sisters, Mary Frances Moore and Darthy Carol Moore Dulaney, son-in-law, Al Green and two step children.
Martha Jo Gregg was a member of First Baptist Church in Columbus, Ms. She was an active member of her Sunday school class. She was retired from Mississippi University for Women, working in the registrar’s office, as payroll clerk and as office manager of the campus credit union. She was also employed by various banks during her presence in the workforce. Martha Jo had an avid love for flowers and gardening.
Pallbearers will be grandson-in-law, Glenn Hackney, grandsons, Jason Gurley, Neil Green, step-grandson, Skylar Gregg and great- grandsons, Tristan Pettus and Rylan Pettus.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to ALL caregivers, especially Dawn Grace, RN of Baptist Hospice and granddaughter-in-law, Angela Simpson, for providing the best quality of care for Martha Jo during her last months of life. We also want to thank Theresa Gregg for her dedication and vigilance to Martha Jo’s comfort during this trying time.
