MARTHA EGGER

Mrs. Martha Wheeler Egger, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family in Caledonia , MS , Friday, February 25, 2022, at the age of 96 after a brief illness.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at 3:00 PM at Memorial Gunter Peel Chapel.  The interment will immediately follow at Egger Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Egger was born November 23, 1925, in Lowndes County, Mississippi. She graduated from Caledonia High School class of 1944 and always looked forward with anticipation to attending the annual Caledonia High School Alumni Banquet.

After her high school graduation, s he worked for Dr. Roy Griffin as a dental assistant and later for Dr. George Dowdle and Dr. George Welch. She retired from Glen M anufacturing C ompany after 35 years of loyal service , where she made lifelong friends that she continued to keep in touch with throughout the years.  Mrs. Egger was a great southern story teller and had a wonderful sense of humor.  She was an avid Ole Miss fan and she loved every opportunity to cheer on her beloved Rebels . She had impeccable style and was always dressed to the nines , with hair and make-up in place, always with her signature pearls and nails painted. She adored her family and enjoyed entertaining friends in her home . S he was also known as an excellent cook. Mrs. Egger was a member of the Caledonia Presbyterian Church and later moved her membership to Flint Hill C hurch.  Mrs. Egger married the love of her life, the late Mr. Jack Egger , on May 22, 1948. They were married for 31 blissful years. Mrs. Egger was preceded in death by one son, Charlie Wheeler Egger. She was also preceded in death by her parents Festus and Tillie Wheeler, her brothers Percy Wheeler, Charlie Wheeler, F.B. Wheeler Jr. , Bill Wheeler, Clifton Wheeler, and Hershel Duncan, and sisters Myrtis Wheeler Gordon , Nell Wheeler Robertson, Ray Duncan Elliott and special nephew, Clifton Marion “Sonny” Wheeler.

Mrs. Egger is survived by her children, Martha Jack “Jackie” Egger Culpepper (Charles) of Caledonia, MS ; Betty Ruth Egger Kirkland of Caledonia, MS ; Mary George “Georgie” Egger Carroll (Clinton) of Booneville, MS ; Samye “Leigh” Egger Beard ( Micheal ) of Caledonia, MS ; four grandchildren , Thomas Culpepper (Debbie), Lynn Culpepper Cavanaugh (Mike), Addison Beard, and Charlie Beard ; two g reat grandchildren, Jack and Audrey Ann Cavanaugh ; very special friend s , Laurene Robinson and Miriam Killebrew , and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers: Charlie Beard, Micheal Beard, Clinton Carroll, Jack Cavanaugh, Mike Cavanaugh, Charles Culpepper, Thomas Culpepper, and Skip Egger.

A special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Baptist Memorial Hospital and her special caregivers with Baptist Hospice services in Columbus, MS.
