Linda Oliver Maners died peacefully on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 after a long battle with Huntington’s disease. Linda was born March 5, 1941 in Memphis, TN to George W. and Elvie Gibson Oliver of Columbus who preceded her in death as well as her two sisters Elaine Oliver Schoggen (Leroy) and Lorine Oliver Hester (Hewie). Mrs. Maners was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Joe Robert Maners Jr. She is survived by their two daughters, Terry Maners Watkins (Michael) of Philadelphia, MS and Tamara Maners Gavin (Bill) of Columbus, MS and their beloved rescue dog, Ashley along with her grandchildren Nicholas Watkins (Nicole) and great grandson Logan Watkins and Cori Gavin. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Leroy Schoggen (Linda), Bill Schoggen (Jeri), David Schoggen (Ann) Peggy Beasley Waddell (Bill), Diane Beasley and Zane Beasley (Martha) and all their kids.
Linda is a Columbus native and graduated from Lee High School is 1958. Her senior year she started working for the Columbus Public School District as a student worker and over 36 years she moved into positions of the Office Manager and later the Financial Manager serving under School Superintendents James E. Goolsby, J.V. Carr, Thomas Cooley and Dr. Reuben Dilworth. She retired in 1994.
Her passion was her family and furrbabies. She loved all her nieces and nephews and their kids. She and Joe spent as much time with their girls as possible. She loved her rose garden and always loved a bouquet of roses for any occasion.
Also mourning her loss is her lifelong friends Martha Youngblood Hubbard (John) of Columbus and Betty Kyle of Columbus. Special recognition is given by the family for her caregivers and family at New Horizon Residential Center in New Hope.
A Celebration of life will be held at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory, 2 nd Avenue North location on Saturday, June 22, 2019 with a 10:00 am visitation followed by the memorial celebration service at 11:00 am. Rev. Glenn Miller will officiate.
