Leon Milton Speck, Jr., age 87, of Tupelo, MS, formerly of Columbus, MS, passed away May 26, 2019, at Traceway Retirement Center of Tupelo. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 1, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Memorial Gunter Peel Chapel 2 nd Ave. North location. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Speck was born August 26, 1931, in Memphis, TN, to the late Leon M. and Mary Browning Speck. He served in the United States Army and retired as a district sales manager for Frito Lay after 32 years. Mr. Speck was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. He enjoyed being active in the City of Columbus and served as Election Commissioner for a number of years.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Valeria Belcher Speck of Tupelo, MS, formerly of Columbus, MS, daughters, Lisa Dickerson and her husband Rex of Columbus, MS, Teresa Couchman and her husband Bo of Columbus, GA, son, William “Billy” Speck and his wife Laura of Corpus Christi, TX, 3 brothers, 4 sisters, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Buster Dickerson, Matt Miller, Will Couchman, Curt Couchman, Rory Guthrie, and William Speck.
