Lena Jones, 86 years old, died on October 12, 2023, peacefully at St Dominic hospital with her family by her side. Graveside services will be held Friday October 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Gardens of Columbus 176 Frontage Road Columbus, MS 39701, with Pastor Glenn Miller officiating; visitation will be held Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home 716 2nd Ave N. Columbus, MS 39701.

Lena was born August 15, 1937, to the late Herman and Floria Nichols in Selma, AL.

Lena married Thomas Jones on August 15, 1955, in Selma, AL.
They were blessed with two children, Richard Glenn & Thomas Greg.
They spent many years together living in different parts of the US due to Thomas being a Master Sergeant in the US Air Force. They finally settled in Columbus MS on a small farm where they tendered the land with care, growing many different vegetables, raising livestock and sharing the food they grew with family, friends and neighbors.

Lena worked as a salesclerk in many small stores, but was an avid homemaker at heart. She was a fantastic cook and baker. Lena always had something freshly baked for all of her family when they visited.
We all will certainly miss her fine foods, tasty treats and hospitality. She loved being surrounded by family and taking care of them, and giving them great advice.

Lena is survived by her children Glenn (Penny Lewis) Jones and Greg (Kay) Jones of Brandon, MS; 3 grandchildren Stephanie (Jeremy) Newell of Crestview FL, Dulcenia Jones of Okolona MS, Ashley Buckner of Carthage MS, and 1 step granddaughter Kalei (Sam) Martinez of Broomfield CO; 7 great grandchildren Allison (Brandon) Newell & Madison (Garrett) McVay, Alex, Autumn & Lexie Jones, Addie & Austin Buckner; 2 great great grandchildren Austin & Lakelynn Newell; neice Sherry (Tommy) Hawkins & nephew Gerald (Wanda) Salter.
She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas, sister Esther Salter, brothers Cecil and Leo Nichols, and 2 great great grandchildren Kylan Wayne McVay and Aurora Hope McVay
