Larry Edward Caldwell

Larry Edward Caldwell, 58, of Crawford, MS, died Monday, February 18, 2019 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory, 2 nd Avenue North location. Visitation will be Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the 2 nd Avenue North location. Services will be  Sunday, February 24, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Crawford United Methodist Church with Rev. Kathy Brackett officiating. Burial with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow at Oak Limb Cemetery in Crawford.

Born July 4, 1960 in Rome, GA, Larry was the son of the late John P. Caldwell and Roberta Jackson Caldwell. He was a 1978 graduate of Model High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force in November 1980. During his career in the Air Force, he served in many different capacities in the Logistics field and was stationed at various bases around the world.  While stationed at Columbus Air Force Base, he met the love of his life Phyllis Phillips of Crawford, and the two were married on March 15, 1997. He retired from the Air Force in 2000 with the rank of MSGT and began a second career with the Air Force as a civilian. At the time of his death he was the Civilian Operations Officer of the 14 th Logistics Readiness Squadron and was looking forward to his upcoming second retirement after nearly 18 years of service.

A Christian, Larry was a faithful member of Crawford United Methodist Church, serving on various committees. He also served as a Trustee of the Oak Limb Cemetery Board. He was devoted to volunteering and service. He was  an active member of Lowndes County District 4 Volunteer Fire Department and had served two terms on the Crawford City Council, having been elected in 2005 and re-elected in 2009.He loved the outdoors and was a passionate and avid deer hunter. Always kind and willing to help, he was slow to anger but quick to forgive. He cared deeply for others. A good, loving man, he always had a smile and an infectious laugh. He was a wonderful husband, daddy, son, “Grandpa” and a genuine friend to everyone.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis Y. Caldwell of Crawford, his mother Roberta Jackson Caldwell of Rome, GA, his son Edward Keith Caldwell (Jennifer) of Rome, his daughters and sons-in-law Aimee and Robert Nichols of Rockmart, GA and Leah and David Brackin of Columbus  and his mother-in-law Judge Peggy Phillips of Crawford. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law Paula and John Streetman of Plainville, GA, Joy and Kent Pilcher of Rome, GA and his sister Sandra Caldwell of Rome and his sister-in- law Peg Mordecai of Columbus and his brother-in-law Jim Phillips of Crawford.  He is also survived by eight grandchildren Lawson and Olivia Brackin, Debra Jane Barmore, Robert Lee, Jacob and Taylor Nichols, Travis Gambill and Arianna Greene and three great-grandchildren Zoey and Melody Barmore and Lily Gregory.

Pallbearers will be John Streetman, Kent Pilcher, Darryl Presley, Danny Taylor, Will Gray and Randy Bailey. Honorary pallbearers will be District 4 Volunteer Fire Department, 14 th Logistics Readiness Squadron, Vera Dantzler, Jim Phillips and J.D. Brooks.
