Karen Brown Murff Coleman, 66, died at her residence on April 26, 2019.
Visitation is Thursday, May 2, 2019, from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory, College Street location. Service will be at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Stephen Blaylock officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery.
Born in Columbus on March 7, 1953, she was the daughter of Willie Florence “Cissy” Brown Murff and the late James Connell Murff, Sr.
She graduated from Tupelo High School and worked as an operator for the local telephone company for several years. Returning to school, she graduated in 1980 from MUW with a degree in education.
For 32 years she taught in the Columbus Municipal School System. After retirement, she devoted much of her time to tracing and studying her family descent. Within a few years she considered herself an avid genealogist. She was a member of the Bernard Romans Chapter DAR, the Pioneer Society, and Central United Methodist Church. She had a love for horses and enjoyed being a part of the Wild House Bunch Riding Club of Tupelo.
She was preceded in death by her father. In addition to her mother and mother’s special friend Joe Bell of Tupelo, she is survived by daughter, Allicyn Coleman Hewett of Flowood, MS; son John Michael Coleman of Alexandria, VA; granddaughter Kalin Hewett of Caledonia, MS; one brother Jim (Mandy) of Tupelo, MS; nieces Montana (Matt) Purvis of New Albany, MS; Macon and Emery Murff; nephews Garrett Hill and Rivers Murff, all of Tupelo, MS.
