Joyce Westbrooks

Joyce Camille Westbrooks, 76, formally of Columbus Mississippi, passed away in her Athens, Alabama home on October 4, 2022 surrounded by her family.  She was born on August 24, 1946 to Mr. and Mrs John Perkins.  She is a graduate of Lee High School class of 1964, and a graduate of Mississippi University of Women class of 1968.  After graduating from “The W” with a degree in Nutrition, she went on to intern at The Children’s Hospital at the University of Alabama Birmingham in the field of Dietetics.  She remained a Registered Dietitian for her 40 year career until her retirement from Baptist Memorial Hospital where she was loved by all who worked with her.

Camille was a devoted church member of Central United Methodist Church, and later Fairview Baptist Church of Columbus, Mississippi, and Pineview Baptist Church of Harvest, Alabama, where she enjoyed serving in the women’s and children’s ministries.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John Robert Perkins and Ruby Grace Atkins Perkins of Columbus Mississippi, and her father and mother-in-law, Robert Leedaniel Westbrooks Sr. and Eva Doris Stewart Westbrooks of Manchester, Tennessee.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Leedaniel Westbrooks Jr., daughter Deanne Kay Westbrooks, daughter Lori Westbrooks Brooks, son-in-law Justin Miller Brooks, and grandchildren Cayden and Gracie Brooks.  She is also survived by her brother Eddie Perkins and his wife Darryl Perkins, her sisters-in-law Connie Steele, Cindy Williams, and brother-in-law Scott Williams.  She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she loved and adored.  She is also survived by her beloved canine companion, Ginger.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Legacy Chapel Funeral Home in Madison, Alabama with visitation at 1 PM, followed by a service at 2 PM on Sunday, October 9, 2022.  Internment will be held at Friendship Cemetery in Columbus, Mississippi, on October 10th, at 2 PM.

In lieu of flowers, Camille’s wish was for donations to be made to Pineview Baptist Church or Downtown Rescue Mission of Huntsville in her memory.
