Joan Carol Jordan Rhett

November 17, 1932 — July 22, 2023

Joan Carol Jordan Rhett was born on November 17, 1932 in Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania to Harold Pierce Jordan and Anna Maude Fallon Jordan. She was gathered to her people on July 22, 2023 after a brief illness.
Joan made her Christian profession of faith at the Rockville Centre (New York) Congregational Church in 1947. She was a graduate of South Side High School in Rockville Center and Green Mountain Junior College in Poultney, Vermont. She worked with the Vick Chemical Company in New York City prior to relocating to Mississippi in 1958.
Bob and Joan became husband and wife on May 21, 1960. In 1964, the Rhetts moved into the “little house next to the dairy”, where they raised our children and entertained their grandchildren in later years. Joan served as chief financial officer of Rhettwood Ranch, the family’s cattle and row crop business.
Over the past 40+ years, Joan faithfully attended and volunteered at First United Methodist Church of Columbus, where she was a member of the Lewis Fellowship Class and the United Methodist Women.
She was active in the Antiquities Society and Prairie Supper Club, a Life Member of Junior Auxiliary of Columbus, a member of Milady Garden Club, and a morning regular at the Fitness Factor.
In addition to her parents and her husband of 48 years, she was preceded in death by her sister, Norma Sue Jordan Barbour. She is survived by her children:Arrington (Loleeta) Rhett of Hattiesburg; Randy (Pam) Rhett of Nashville; Jeffrey (Sally) Rhett of Meridian; and Susan (John) Hines of Gurnee, Illinois; twelve grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.


Visitation will be held on Friday, July 28 from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at First
Methodist Church, followed by a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at
Friendship Cemetery.
