JEFFREY HORTON
Jeffrey Michael Horton rode a 100-foot wave through the gates of heaven May 20, 2023. He was 65 years old.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday May 24, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Horton was born on January 4, 1958 in Geneva, Ohio to the late Eugene Horton and Marilyn Summers Horton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Geno Horton and Stephen Horton.
He was well known for his love of life, family and friends, which came easily to him, there are far too many to count. He was also widely known as one of the best swimmers Columbus had the good fortune of having on their swim team. He went on to receive a scholarship to swim at Indian River College in Florida. He was truly a free spirit that roamed this earth looking for new friends and new adventures daily. He was a firm believer in physical fitness and staying active.
In the early to mid 80s after moving to Deerfield Florida and meeting his beautiful wife Marie he became what could only be known as a master at oriental rug preservation and restoration. Most of the clients he met throughout the years became lifelong friends.
The North Beach of Maui, Hawaii became a beloved home for Jeff, Marie and their family. He conquered the sport of surfing as an adult, just as he did swimming in his youth. Jeff had the love and respect of world-class surfers that migrate to that part of the world for the best surfing this earth has to offer. There aren't enough words to express here how much Jeff Horton was loved. There are too many broken hearts today because of his absence. He would not want it to be this way, but would hope and pray that everyone would look at life as he did, cherish every second on this beautiful earth, and more importantly with each other.
