Jay Bryan Mitchell, Jr.

JAY MITCHELL - Jay Bryan Mitchell, Jr., age 85, of Columbus, MS, passed away June 1, 2023, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS.  Memorial services will be Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Annunciation Catholic Church with Father Jeffery Waldrep officiating.  Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.  Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Mitchell was born January 8, 1938, in Mark Tree, AR, to the late Jay Bryan and Letha Linny Mitchell, Sr.  He was a graduate of Southside High School in Memphis, TN and the University of Mississippi where he played on the baseball team.  Mr. Mitchell served in the United States Army for several years.  Mr. Mitchell worked as an insurance adjuster for Crawford & Company and State Farm before owning and operating Mitchell's Body Shop of Columbus.  He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church and enjoyed hunting and the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Dunphy Mitchell of Columbus, MS, sons, Jay Mitchell, III, of Washington, DC, and John Michael Mitchell and his wife Shannel of Tucker, GA, and daughter, Angela Mitchell of Canton, GA, sister, Helen Mitchell Cork of Dunwoody, GA, and grandchildren, Travis Brooks, Charlotte Mitchell, Jacob Mitchell, and Rosie Mitchell.
