Janet Blalock of Madison, Mississippi

December 17, 1941 - April 7, 2024

Janet Blalock, age 82, of Madison, MS passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 pm at St Matthews Methodist Church in Madison. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home Chapel in Columbus, with Reverend Andy Stoddard officiating; burial will follow at Egger Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Janet was born on December 17, 1941, in Columbus to the late Willis Grant, Sr. and the late Gaye Grant. She spent most of her life in Lowndes County before moving to Madison in 2014 following the death of her beloved husband Harold. Janet graduated from Caledonia High School and attended Mississippi University for Women where she received bachelors and master's degrees in education. Janet worked as a math teacher and guidance counselor in the Columbus Public School system for over 30 years before working a short time as a guidance counselor at the Mississippi School for Math and Science.

Janet is survived by two sons, Jason Blalock and his wife Susanne of Madison and Jared Blalock and his wife Emily of Madison. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Lauren Glenn and her husband Thomas, Justin Blalock, Hunter Blalock and Wyatt Blalock, sister-in-law Linda Hanson and her husband Bruce of Columbus, and brother-in-law Jim Kidd of Kathleen, GA.

Janet is preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband Harold, her brother Willis Grant, Jr and  his wife Ann of Columbus, and her sister-in-law Jane Kidd of Kathleen, GA.

Pallbearers will be Justin Blalock, Hunter Blalock, Wyatt Blalock, Thomas Glenn, John Hanson, James Grant and Alan Grant.
