James "Sonny" L Glenn Iii

James “Sonny” Glenn, 81, passed away on Tuesday, September 26th, 2023, at his home in Columbus, MS. Sonny was born on January 16th, 1942, and raised his whole life in Columbus. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Columbus. He graduated from S.D. Lee High School, class of 1961, and went on to play college basketball for East Mississippi Community College in Scooba, MS. He was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his lifetime and enjoyed being accompanied by friends and family on many hunting and fishing adventures across the country. He competed and won many fishing tournaments and was also the president of the Columbus Bass Club. Sonny dedicated many years to his family business, Glenn Machine Works, taking the reins from his father, along with his brother Tommy, and they grew the business exponentially.

Sonny was preceded in death by his beloved wife Gayle P. Glenn, parents, Mr. & Mrs. James L “Cowboy” Glenn Jr., and his sisters Glenda Glenn Cumberland & Martha Glenn Hall.

Sonny is survived by his sons, James A. Glenn (Lisa) & Christopher L Glenn, brother Tommy L. Glenn Sr. (Julia Ann); four grandchildren, Caroline C Glenn, Reagan G Glenn, James A Glenn Jr. (Drew), and Waverly S Glenn, along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 29th, at First Methodist Church in Columbus, MS. Visitation is at 1:00 pm and to be directly followed by the funeral at 2:00 pm. Rev. Glen Miller will perform the service.
