JAMES DYER

James Ray Dyer, age 82, died Monday, November 23, 2020 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Columbus. Services will be held Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at 11:00 AM at New Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Mel Howton officiating.  Burial will follow at Egger Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church.

Mr. Dyer was born on Saturday, April 30, 1938 in Hamilton, AL to the late Eston Sullivan and Mildred Farr Dyer. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church. Mr. Dyer worked as a supervisor for Ceco Building Systems for 33 years, then after retirement he worked part-time at the YMCA in Caledonia. He was an avid Ole Miss fan, and enjoyed NASCAR and dirt track racing. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Jane Jones and Mary Ann Atkins.

Survivors include his wife Martha Burke Dyer, his son and daughter-in-law  Jason and Tiffany Dyer, his sister Sue Wood and his grandchildren Karah and Peyton Dyer, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jess Stewart, Jeff McKee, Jake Stewart, Eddie Rushing, Tommy Vaughn, Wayne Robinson, and Peyton Dyer. Honorary pallbearers will be Davis Getty, Jimmy Hughes, Terry Fields, Lynn Johnson, Andy Wood, David Atkins and the Senior Sunday School Class of New Salem Baptist Church.

The  family wishes to extend special thanks to his caretakers Anita McGee and Cheryl Stewart.
