James Chain

  James Earl Chain, age 78, of Columbus, MS, passed away November 28, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his family. Graveside services will be Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Pine Grove Cemetery in Pickens County, AL, with Victoria Chain and Rev. Jerry Morrison officiating. Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

 Mr. Chain was born September 9, 1946, in Pickens County, AL, to the late J. C. Chain and Nettie Mae Bolling Swink. He owned and operated Chain Logging for 50 years. Mr. Chain attended the Pine Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed coon hunting, going to the races, hunting and fishing, and hosting an annual 4tth of July cookout. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Mike Chain.

 Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Barbara Ann Stewart Chain of Columbus, MS, sons, Mark Chain and his wife Debra of Columbus, MS, and Jerimiah Hartzell of Columbus, MS, daughters, Linda Ott and her husband Allan of Ethelsville, AL, and Robbie Swink and her husband Johnny of Reform, AL, brother, Anthony Chain of Columbus, MS, grandchildren, Brooks Swink, Cody Swink, Anna Shaw and her husband Walker, Victoria Chain, Alexandra Chain, Amiee Price, Allison Barksdale and her husband Bubba, Aaron Ott and his wife Kierra, and Austin Ott, and great grandchildren, Baylee, Krystin, Brody, Ella, Remi, Raylee, Ryder, Abigail, Hunter, Tynley, Gentry, and Brody.

 Pallbearers will be family members.

 Honorary pallbearers will be all former and present employees of Chain Logging and all the friends and associates in the logging community.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 1907 Dunbarton, Suite C, Jackson, MS, 39216.

 The family would like to express their love and appreciation to the Baptist Memorial Hospice nurses, staff, and caregivers.
