Jacqueline Morton

October 28, 1929 — November 20, 2021

Jacqueline Hollis Morton, age 92, of Chaska, MN, died peacefully on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at her residence.

Jacqueline was known by several different names. She was Miss Jackie or Mrs. Morton to many, but it was Momma, Mamaw, Jackson, or Aunt Jackie to those she loved the most. Jacqueline was born October 28, 1929, in Birmingham, Alabama the oldest of four children to Vera Hollis. On February 3, 1946, she married the love of her life, J.C. Morton, in Mississippi. They had two children, Lola and William. They were residents of Mississippi/Alabama area until they moved to Tennessee.

Jacqueline was a school bus driver for 25 years for Davidson County Schools in Tennessee. Outside of driving her time was filled with lovingly caring for her husband, J.C., after he suffered a paralyzing stroke, playing softball with her church league, gathering anyone she could to join her for Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and cooking for visitors who frequently stopped by their home in Antioch. She had an unwavering love of the Lord and shared that with as many people as she could. She was active at her church, Antioch Baptist Church (Antioch, TN) and that is where she met many life-long friends.

After J.C. passed in 1983, she enjoyed a little traveling and her favorite trips were to Hawaii with her church friends and ones taken with her dear friend, Miss Peggy, which included a trip up the east coast to Nova Scotia and a cruise. She enjoyed reminiscing about those trips and the time she got to drive a semi with her brother, Carlus, to see some of the country. She was famous for telling stories of her childhood for hours on end and she would share with anyone who would listen. She later became a wonderful caregiver for several friends in their last months of life and it was only fitting that she was able to be surrounded by family to care for her in her last years.

Twelve years ago, she moved in with Dennis and Lola in Chaska, MN. She enjoyed frequent family gatherings and loved a good “game day” especially if she could beat someone at cards or dominos. She never met a peanut butter and banana sandwich or a dessert that she didn’t love. Reading and word-find puzzles were favorite pass-times. “Roll Tide” was shouted often at the beginning of football games.

Jacqueline was a strong woman with a strong belief in good values and passing them down to future generations. She was kind when kindness mattered and firm when that was needed. Her grandkids and great grandkids could talk her into fun photo ops and there was always a healthy dose of “pickin’ on each other” going on. That was one of her love languages! She’d never miss an opportunity to teach a good “life lesson” every once in a while.

She was preceded in death by her Husband J.C Morton, Son William Morton, Great-granddaughter Jacqueline Ann Thull, Mother Vera Hollis and Siblings Carlus, Martha Jo, and Harrell. Nephews: Paul Glenn Haynes, David Sansing and Mark Sansing. She was joined in heaven on the same day by her Great-grandson James Curtis Morton

Survivors include her daughter, Lola (Dennis) Meyer of Chaska; 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
