Inell Herron

Hazel Inell Herron, age 92, of Plantation, FL, formerly of Columbus, MS, passed away July 19, 2021, at her residence.  Graveside services will be Saturday, July 24, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Friendship Cemetery with Rev. Sammy Crawford officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory 716 2 ^nd Ave. North location.

Mrs. Herron was born April 13, 1929, in Winston County, MS, to the late Van and Lucey Eaves Finkley.  She was a soft spoken Christian woman who loved her family dearly.  She was a longtime resident of Columbus and member of Fairview Baptist Church.  She raised a beautiful family of three children, Bruce Herron of Mobile, AL, David Herron of Plantation, FL, and Donna Herron of El Paso, TX.  Her late husband, William “Bill” Herron, was in the USMC for 24 years, and she moved many times in support of his career.  She also managed the needs of her family during his many deployments overseas.  She was selfless and strong that way.  She overcame a battle with cancer many years ago and she fought her battle with dementia fiercely until her recent passing.  Memory of her smile, her soft spoken nature, and sense of humor will live on in the memories of those who were privileged to know her, but she will be missed dearly.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Sylvia Finkley Shumpert & Betty Murphy, and two brothers, Van Bernard Finkley and Johnny Finkley.

In addition to her children, survivors include brother, Jimmy Finkley of Phoenix City, AL, sisters, Joann Rector of Millport, AL, and Wanda Ferguson of New Hope, MS, grandchildren, Billy Herron, Amanda Lafon, and Jessie Stewart, all of Mobile, AL, and Richard Herron of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, plus many great and great great grandchildren, too numerous to name individually, but loved dearly.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.
