Imogene Staten Duckett

Imogene Staten Duckett, age 95, died Sunday, April 14, 2024. “Miss Jean” will be remembered by all who knew and loved her as a Woman of Faith who loved and served her family, her church, and her friends.

Imogene was born on May 18, 1928, at Holcomb, Mississippi to the late John Clifton Staten and Marguerite Moore. Imogene was the youngest of four. Her brothers John Clifton Staten, Jr., LeBraska Staten, and James Harold Staten predeceased her.

Imogene spent her childhood in Greenwood, MS and graduated from Greenwood High School. It was in Greenwood she met and married her husband Joe Duckett and raised their two daughters. Relocation connected with Joe’s job eventually brought them to Columbus, MS. Imogene was a long-time member of Fairview Baptist Church and then First Methodist Church of Columbus. Throughout her life, Imogene had many careers including telephone operator, seamstress and tailor, and teacher. She was most proud of the opportunity she had to serve for many years as an interpreter for the deaf.

Imogene is survived by daughters, Brenda Joy Morgan of Columbus and Karon Leigh Scott and her husband Davis of Starkville. She is also survived by six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren:: Angela Scott Gardner (Ted); Gregory Scott (Julie) of Austin, TX; John W. Morgan, IV; Dr. Clifton Scott (Becky); Stephanie Morgan of Birmingham AL; and Brittany Morgan of Atlanta, GA.; the great-grands are Julian, Lola, Nora Ruth, Alliene, Nathan, Genevieve,Thomas, Amelia, Elcey, Everett, and Tate.

Graveside services for “Miss Jean” will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 18th at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Holcomb, MS with the Rev. Dr. Vaughn Stafford of First Methodist Church of Columbus officiating.
