HOWARD EUGENE FISACKERLY, Sr.
A celebration of the life of Howard Eugene Fisackerly, Sr., 85, of Columbus, Mississippi
will be Tuesday May 4, 2021 at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church, Columbus, Mississippi; burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 9:30 until service time at the church.
He passed away May 1 at home. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home 903 College Street of Columbus.
Howard was born on February 27, 1936, in Greenwood, MS, to Claude Kelso Fisackerly, Sr. and Florence Brinton Fisackerly. He spent most of his youth in the communities of Ruleville and Sunflower. Howard graduated Castle Heights Military Academy, Lebanon, TN, and attended Mississippi State College where he graduated with a degree in Animal Husbandry in 1959. He was a member of the Beta Tau Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order for which he was admitted to the KA Court of Honor in 1988. Howard also served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Howard married Doris Johnson Barrett of Indianola on December 20, 1959. The
couple moved to Columbus, MS, where he began farming. In 1963, Howard joined
Mississippi Farm Bureau Insurance as an agent and later became Agency Manager.
He worked with Farm Bureau for 41 years while also owning and operating a soybean
and cattle farm in Lowndes County. Howard loved to share the joys of the family farm.
Whether he was hosting friends for a hunt or teaching the little ones how to fish and
open the gates, he was happiest riding around the land of Evandale. He was also an
avid MSU sports fan and when he was not at the Junction, the Hump or Dudy Noble
enjoying visiting with friends, he was listening or watching on game day.
Howard was involved in many church and civic activities. As a Member of First United
Methodist Church he served on various committees, was a member of the Ivy Sunday
School class and enjoyed volunteering with the church’s Loaves and Fishes. Howard
was a longtime member of the Mississippi Cattlemen’s Association, Farm Bureau,
the
Lowndes County 4-H Council, a member of the MS Senior Services Board, Kiwanis
Club and served several terms on the board of Heritage Academy where he also
served as Board President.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Kenneth Haley Fisackerly and Claude Kelso Fisackerly, Jr. Howard is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Doris Barrett Fisackerly. He is also survived by his children Howard Eugene Fisackerly, Jr. (Pam) of Columbus, Haley Reeves Fisackerly, Sr. (Allison) of Jackson and Noel Barrett Fisackerly (Marlo) of Vine Grove, KY. Howard was very proud of his six grandchildren, Brinton Fisackerly (Meryl), Clay Fisackerly (Hilarie), Reeves Fisackerly, Ryan Fisackerly, Heath Fisackerly and Haley Marie Fisackerly and three great grandchildren, Mamie Kate Fisackerly, Martha Ann Fisackerly and Hattie Florence Fisackerly. Brother-in-law Richard Barrett (Rebecca) of Indianola, MS and many nieces and nephews mourn his loss.
The service will be presided over by Reverend Jimmy Criddle and pallbearers will be
his five grandsons and three nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the Ivy Sunday
School Class, Ben Chilcutt, Clayton Richardson, B.A. Atkins, Billy Hays, Louis Nabors
and Howard Sharp.
