Henry Douglas Vaughn of Steens, Mississippi

March 28, 1942 - February 19, 2021

Henry Douglas Vaughn, a native of Caledonia went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 19, 2021. The child of the late Gunter and Reba Vaughn, he was born in Caledonia, Mississippi on March 28, 1942.

As a youth and into his young adult years, Henry attended New Salem Baptist Church and diligently worked on the family farm.  He graduated from Caledonia High School as class Salutatorian and continued his pursuit of education at Mississippi State University where he earned a degree in accounting.  While in college, he worked as an accountant at West and Sons in Columbus.

Following his graduation from Mississippi State in 1964, Henry married his beloved wife, Kay Scofield of Columbus. Henry and Kay were faithful members of First Baptist Church where he played on the church softball team, served as an usher for many years, and was a part of several committees.

He worked as an accountant/controller with Seminole Manufacturing in Columbus until the mid-1970s.  He then returned to the family farm to work alongside his father and brother (Tommy), so they could build upon and expand what is known today as Vaughn Farms.

Henry’s love for our Lord and Savior was clearly demonstrated in his everyday life.  His unquestionable love and devotion for family leaves a lasting legacy while his love for farming and the local community is indisputable. He enjoyed God’s creation spending time in the great outdoors hunting, fishing, and preparing the land for his family to enjoy the same.  One of his greatest joys was planning the next farming season and harvesting the crops with his brother, Tommy. Henry was well known for his quick dry wit, sense of humor and excellent barbeque including his own special secret recipe barbeque sauce.

Henry served for many years on the Caledonia School Board and is a long-standing member of the Lowndes County Farm Bureau Board including a term as board president.

Henry was preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his wife Kay Scofield Vaughn, the love of his life for 56 years; children, Amy Vaughn Knittig (Doug), Hank W.
