HANK GUNTER - Henry Harris "Hank" Gunter, III, age 76, of Columbus, MS, passed away June 14, 2024, at his home surrounded by family. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 9:30 am at First Methodist Church. Funeral services will begin at 11 am with Rev. Dr. Vaughn Stafford officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gunter was born May 5, 1948, in Columbus to the late Henry Harris "Bubber" Gunter, Jr. and Marie Price Gunter Briley.  He has one sister, Gail Gunter and her daughter Lisa Wiggins of Columbus. He married his wife, Becky, in November of 1992 bringing their two families together making many memories with their children and grandchildren who lovingly called him “Popeye”.

A graduate of Lee High School and Mississippi State University, Hank formerly owned and operated Columbus Machine & Welding Works for many years. Hank was a member of First Methodist Church, Magowah Gun and Country Club, and the Shriner’s Club. Hank enjoyed spending time with his wife and family at their farm and at Smith Lake. He was a collector of many toys including vintage cars, motorcycles, go-karts, and model trains. Most recently, his favorite pastime was racing slot cars with his friends.

Hank is survived by his wife Becky Gunter. Their children include Kathryn (Bob) Phillips, IV Gunter, Angi (Harry) Wilson, Allyson (Cody) Lett, and the late Melanie (Brandon) Brown. His grandchildren include Ashton (Westin) Graves, Harrison Wilson, Ayden Mitchell, Harris Gunter, Lilly Grace Gunter, Grey Gunter, Heath Brown, Bella Brown, Gunter Phillips, Bill Phillips, Brooke (Blake) Hill, Beth (Jon Marc) Killebrew, and Blake (Anna Claire) Phillips, Hayden Lett, Rylan Lett, and he had countless nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Duncan, Jerry Roberts, Joe Morse, Jerry Reynolds, Jimmy Cobb, Karey Atkins, Byrd Jones, John Griffin, Boyd Atkinson, Josh Frady, Randy Rigdon, Bo Jarrett, Ryan Murphy, John O’Connell, his sons, sons-in-law, grandsons, and former employees of Columbus Machine and Welding.

Memorials may be made in memory of Hank Gunter to Columbus-Lowndes Humane Society, 50 Airline Road, Columbus, MS 39072.
