Frances Borland

Frances Jones Borland, age 62, of Columbus, MS, passed away April 27, 2022, at her residence.  Funeral services will be Sunday, May 1, 2022, at 3:00 PM at First United Methodist Church with Reverends Jimmy Criddle, Anne Russell Bradley, and Aislinn Kopp officiating.  The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery.  Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Borland was born January 20, 1960 in Columbus, MS to Emily Fletcher Jones of Columbus, MS and the late Robert Samuel "Bobby" Jones.  She was a 1978 graduate of Heritage Academy.  In high school, she was head cheerleader, won the North-State tennis tournament in the No. 1 singles division, was Miss Heritage, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame.  Frances was a graduate of the University of Mississippi and was a Delta Gamma Sorority alumna.  She was in Lambda Sigma Honor Society, was a Sigma Chi little sister, and served as President of the Sigma Chi little sisters. Frances was a retired insurance agent from State Farm.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she enjoyed playing and singing in the Praise Band and choir and was active in her UMW Circle.  Frances was one of the first few female members of the Columbus Rotary Club, life member of Columbus Junior Auxiliary, and member of the 1978 Pilgrimage Court.  She also enjoyed serving and giving of her time in the North Mississippi Emmaus, Crossroads, and Chrysalis communities.  Frances’ passions were family, fitness, and a deep love for all animals.  She was the best “Aunt Fran” to all her daughter’s friends and her friends’ four legged pets.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Samuel "Rob" Jones, Jr. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her daughter, Caroline Borland Pitts and her husband Todd of Birmingham, AL.

Pallbearers will be Toby Lott, Dan Bennett, Brad Brown, Bryan Brown, Norman Ford, Kell Sneed, Mark Vickers, and Alan Williams.  Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Sneed, George P. Elsberry, Ray Lacey, the Heritage Class of 1978, and all of Frances' Emmaus, Crossroads, and Chrysalis friends.
