Ferrell Glenn Honnoll Stapp, family matriarch, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 6, 2021 at Winston Medical Center Senior Care Center in Louisville, MS. at the age of 93. Widely known and loved by all as Granny, she considered herself a millionaire not in monetary terms but in love. Born December 2, 1927 in Lowndes County, MS to E. E. Madge and Elzie Caslin Honnoll. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, R.L. Stapp; son Wollie R. Stapp and sister, Myra Honnoll Walker.
Granny leaves to cherish her memory, daughters: Yevonne S. Prewitt; Gail Culpepper (Carroll) and Dianne Holman (Joe). Grandchildren: Melissa Stapp Parker (Benny); Wes Stapp (Kristi); Scott Prewitt (Rosanna); Mark Prewitt (Lindsey); Christopher Holman (Cheryl); Kara Holman; Cordie H. Forrester (Heath); Andrew Culpepper and Matthew Culpepper. She also leaves behind her brother, Burdette Honnoll, fifteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Granny loved telling stories of her days working at the Columbus Fred’s Discount Store. She worked there 27 years and was a well know catcher of shop lifters in her prime. Granny enjoyed telling of chasing suspects down the sidewalks of downtown Columbus. She loved keeping up with the local law enforcement. For years she listened to a police scanner to keep up with up to the minute crime excitement in Lowndes County. Granny had many friends at the Columbus Police Department as well as the Lowndes County Sheriff’s department and was delighted in later years when she received visits from officers at her home. During these visits she enjoyed serving her famous fried chicken, biscuits, gravy, sweet potato pies and fried apple pies.
Granny was truly a renaissance woman and was an accomplished gardener, country cook, seamstress, quilter, landscape painter and hunter of small game.
During her days of growing up at Flint Hill, Caledonia, Granny worked closely with her father plowing fields with mules growing vegetables, cotton and tobacco.
After raising her 4 children she continued to teach her grandchildren to hunt, fish, preserve food and sew.
Granny enjoyed telling others that she once went squirrel hunting and “accidentally” shot two wild turkey hens perched in a tree with one shot. Yes, she cleaned and cooked them.
In addition to spending time with her grandchildren, her greatest loves were watching SEC football, drinking Dr. Pepper, crocheting and painting in a self-taught Bob Ross style.
