EVERETT AUSTIN - Turtious Everett Austin, age 85, of Steens, MS, passed away October 22, 2021, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.  Funeral services will be Monday, October 25, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Memorial Gunter Peel Chapel 903 College St. location with Dr. Breck Ladd and Rev. Sammy Crawford officiating.  The interment will immediately follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 12:30 PM until the time of the service.

Mr. Austin was born December 30, 1935, in Columbus, MS, to the late Vannoy and Mary Lou Ussery Austin, Sr.  He was vice president and auditor of Trustmark National Bank, Columbus, MS, at the time of his retirement on May 5, 1995.  He was a deacon and member of Fairview Baptist Church.  He served as an active member of the Sanctuary Choir at Fairview Baptist for 20 years and was music director at two other churches in Lowndes County prior to 1989 when he became a member of Fairview Baptist.  Mr. Austin was a United States Army Veteran.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Vannoy A. Austin, Jr. and sister, Alice Austin Nickoles.

Survivors include his sister, Gladys Mann of Columbus, MS, and a number of nieces an nephews and great nieces.

Pallbearers will be Austin Mann, Terry Nickoles, Jerry Nickoles, Gary Nickoles, Gary Smith and Brian Manchester.

Honorary pallbearers will be member of the Billy Bozeman Sunday School Class, members of the Sanctuary Choir, and members of the 55+ Choir of Fairview Baptist Church, and Bruce Myers.
