Ethelyne White Strait

November 9, 1930 — February 19, 2021

ETHELYNE STRAIT

On February 19, 2021, Ethelyne W. Strait passed away while surrounded by her loved ones.  She was 90 years old at the time she was called home.  A native of Louisville, MS, she was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Ida White, brothers, Jim White and Walter Earl White, sisters,  Dale Robertson, Sally Puckett and Earnestine Cockrell.  Mrs. Strait was one of 11 children born to the White family. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James A. Strait, with whom she had two children, Kathy Hutchinson and Gary Strait (Amy) of Columbus.

She was Granny to her 3 grandchildren, Robert Upton, Christine Wright (Mike), and Travis Strait (Trista), as well as 8 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Fred White of Shuqualak and sisters Janie Reynolds of West Point, Janelle Bracken (Jim) of Loganville, GA, Glenda Thomas of Louisville, and Carol Bullard (John) or Corinth.

She had a lifelong passion for children and enjoyed her time working in several daycare centers.  She was an active member of her church and sang in the choir at McBee Baptist Church late into life.  She was also an avid reader and held time with family in the highest regard.

Her loving, selfless attitude has left an example for many to emulate and she will forever be missed.

Visitation for Mrs. Strait will be Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at the 2nd Ave N Location of Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.  A graveside service will follow at Memorial Gardens of Columbus with Bro. Jim Ray and Bro. Mike Dalton officiating.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Ferguson, Rodney Cockrell, Richie White, Eric Bullard, Greg Duke, and Kenny White.  Nephews and the men of McBee Baptist Church are honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Hospital or any children's foundation of your choice.
