Elizabeth (Betty) Dennis Egger Miller, age 82, passed away Friday, February 15, 2019. Graveside services will be held Monday, February 18, 2019 at 3:00 pm, at Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, MS, with Rev. Curtis Bray and Rev. Andy Tentoni officiating.

Visitation will be held Monday, February 18, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Memorial Gunter and Peel Funeral Home, College Street location.

Ms. Miller was born July 20, 1936 in Columbus, MS to the late John Wesley Egger, Sr. and Frances Fleming Egger. She was a graduate of S. D. Lee High School and Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS, and obtained a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.

She was active in her community as a member and volunteer in many organizations, including the Junior Auxiliary of Columbus, Columbus Arts Council, The Good Samaritan Clinic, Columbus Historic Preservation Commission. She touched the lives of so many through her work with the Phillips Foundation, Kidney Care, and Community Counseling Services. Miss Betty was widely known for graciously opening her home on College Street each year for a Christmas Parade Party.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Florence Egger Molpus and her brother, John Wesley “Bubba” Egger, Jr. Survivors include her son,Robert Glenn Miller, Jr. (Jan) and daughter, Jyl Miller Barefield (Greg), her grandchildren, Casey Dennis Barefield (Amanda), of Nashville, TN, and Robert Glenn Miller, III, (Jeanie), of Columbus, MS; great-grandchildren Micah, Silas, and Noah Barefield; and Kate Ross Miller; extended family members Vera Taylor and Michelle Duncan.

Honorary pallbearers will be the doctors, staff, volunteers, and Board of Directors of the Good Samaritan Clinic, Board members of Phillips Foundation, Dr. Brett Brown, Dr. Jack Reed, William Roberts, Edwina Williams, ladies of The Sewing Club, and members of the Tombigbee Stump Jumpers Water Ski Club.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Good Samaritan Clinic, P. O. Box 661, Columbus, MS 39703.
