Eleanor Sue (MamaSue) Dyer Wood

Sue Wood, age 86, of Panama City Beach, Florida, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, April 17, 2021.  She passed peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones.

Sue was born on June 25, 1934 in Hatley, MS to the late Eston Sullivan and Mildred Dyer.  She married Clevie David Wood in 1950 and they began their journey in the military.  When Clevie retired from the Army, they moved to Columbus and then to Caledonia, MS.  Sue worked as a Sales Clerk at Raymon’s Ladies Clothing Store in Columbus until the store closed. Sue is a member of New Salem Baptist Church in Caledonia, MS.  She also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the VFW Post 4272 in Columbus, MS.  She held several positions while a member of the Auxiliary.

She will be remembered for her infectious smile and great sense of humor.  She was an amazing wife and Mother to 8 children.  She was a wonderful friend with a beautiful soul who never met a stranger.  Sue’s love for reading enabled her to share her knowledge and wisdom with everyone she met.  She enjoyed playing the card game Pinochle, the board game Rummikub, spending time with family and friends, and she was a loyal fan of the TV game show, Jeopardy, right up to the end of her life.

Sue is survived by her children, Joyce Wood, of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Debbie Proctor (Larry) of Panama City Beach, FL, Rebecca Lynn Wood, of Freeport, FL, Carolyn Boswell Wood of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, and Judy Wood Willis (Jeff) of Clayton, NC.  She left 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.

Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Clevie David Wood, two sons, Michael David and Steven Anthony Wood, and one daughter, Sharon Lee Wood, sister, Jane Jones (Arthur), brother Ray Dyer (Martha), and sister Maryann Atkins.

The family would like to thank Gail Dunn and Covenant Care for their assistance in helping the family care for Sue before her passing.

Memorial services will be held at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbus, MS, April 29, 2021 at 1:00pm.  Graveside service to follow with family at Egger Cemetery in Caledonia, MS.  Visitation will be held Thursday, April 29 from 12:30pm until service time at the funeral home.
