ELBERT LOGAN II Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Willis Elbert Logan passed away December 4, 2021 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle at the age of 89 with two of his three children at his side. Willis Bernard Logan, Sr. and Dona Hall Logan welcomed their twin sons, Willis Elbert and James Albert to this world on March 4, 1932. Elbert attended Caledonia School. He met and married Virginia Rogers on August 28, 1953 and they were together for over 65 years until her death in 2019. He voluntarily enlisted in the US Army during the Korean Conflict after a brief service in the National Guard. Sergeant Logan was stationed in Austria with his new wife during his deployment receiving the National Defense Service Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany). They returned to the Mississippi National guard for the remainder of his enlistment. He was later honored by a trip to Washington DC with Honor Flight for war-time veterans to visit the war memorials. He worked for the Commercial Dispatch as on offset pressman however becoming better known for his automotive mechanics working for Brown Buick Cadillac, Trotter’s Texaco, Woolco, and later retiring from Bush’s Service Center. He co-owned and operated the Redbird station on Military Road for a number of years maintaining the route trucks for the US Postal Service. Driving a school bus for Lowndes County Schools was a joy for him for many years during his retirement. He was a founding member of the Woodlawn Church of Christ initially welcoming members into his family home for worship services and was later instrumental in helping to arrange funding for its building construction, becoming an elder in that congregation and worshipping there until the late 70s. He and his wife were faithful members of East Columbus Church of Christ until their deaths. He was a huge Ole Miss and Atlanta Braves fan. He loved taking care of his property, working outside and keeping the grass cut and an avid used appliance tradesman. His family was his world and he enjoyed following his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in all their activities. He was so happy being part of the Arrington Assisted Living Community which he joined in June of this year. He truly loved his new friends and family there. Mr. Logan was a loving father to his three children, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He leaves behind two daughters Gail (Jimmy) Lowery of Columbus, MS, Karen (Lee) O’Quinn of Clermont, FL and a son Glenn (Debbie) Logan of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren Logan Lowery of Starkville, Ginny Lowery (Allen) Swedenburg of Columbus, MS, Kara O’Quinn (Tyler) Cain of Tampa, FL, Joshua Logan of Tucson, AZ and Jacey Logan (Robert) Ledenican with the US Air Force in Japan: great grandchildren Katie Lowery (Tucker) Cantrell of Vernon, AL, Carson, Ila Kate and Caroline Cain of Tampa, FL, Chipper and Ellie Swedenburg of Columbus, MS, Paisley and Wesley Ledenican of Japan and great great grandson Jackson Cantrell of Vernon, AL. Left behind also are sisters Bobbie (Arthur) Winters and Beverly Higdon (Andy) McDonald, brother Willis (Tonyaa) Logan, Jr., sisters-in-law Joyce Logan, Rae Logan and Sammie Yarbrough and a host of nieces and nephews and his special friend Mrs. Juanita Hartman. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brothers James Albert Logan, Richard Logan, Wayne Logan and Jimmy Logan, sisters Edna Dean Young and Merlene Yarbrough. Pallbearers are Allen Jones, Ronnie Jones, Colby Logan, Jonathan Logan, Steve Yarbrough, Donald Taylor and Louis Denney. Time of services will be Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory, 903 College Street, Columbus, MS 39701. Family will greet visitors from 1:00pm until ten minutes prior to the service. Burial with full military honors will be at Woodlawn/Sanders Mill Cemetery located behind Woodlawn Church of Christ in Steens, MS. Family is requesting everyone to please wear a mask and practice social distancing as much as possible during visitation and services. There will be a live stream of the funeral service on the Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory’s Facebook page.
