A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elaine held many callings in the local congregations throughout the U.S. and overseas,  Her favorite calling was adult chorister.  She said she loved to "pull music out of people".

She was a member of Toastmistress and Toastmasters International, competing at the international level.  She was also a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE).  Elaine's hobbies were reading and writing poetry.  She was very proud of a Freedom Foundation Poetry Award presented as the San Antonia, Texas World's Fair.

In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by her husband, Floyd.  She is survived by her sons, Terry Hegwood and Randy Hegwood ; her daughters-in-love, Glenda Hegwood and Teresa Bobbio; grandchilren, Crystal Lea Hegwood, Kellie Rae Hegwood; step grandchildren, Rachel and Byron Smith; brother, Jed Harris (Carol); sisters, Shirley Thompson (Art), Ida Mae Kittrell (Dick), and Connie Slater (Doyle); and many nieces and nephews.
