Ed Prescott

Dennis Edward “Ed” Prescott, age 89 of Columbus passed away Friday, December 22 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. Services will be held Wednesday December 27, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Fairview Baptist Church with Don Both and David Lawrence officiating; burial with Lowndes County Sheriff's Department Honor Guard will follow at Memorial Gardens of Columbus. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church.  Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
Mr. Prescott was born January 16, 1935, to the late Dennis & Ruby Prescott. He was a lifelong resident of Columbus. He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Anna Katherine along with his 2 brothers Ruben Prescott, Jessie Prescott and sisters, Etoy Brackin and Emma Jean Prescott.
He is survived by his sons Rex (Jen) Prescott of Columbus & Ricky (Dana) Prescott of Scottsboro, Al., his grandchildren Meredith (Allen) Greenhaw of Columbus & Blake (Chelsea) Prescott of Millport, Al., Brittney (Dale) Kyles of Tuscaloosa, Al & Darby (Dylan) Plowman of Tuscaloosa, Al., along with 9 great grandchildren & special family friend Mae Harrison.
Mr. Prescott worked at WCBI when it first went on air in 1956 and worked his way up from cameraman to manager. He served as Justice Court Judge 2 terms and Sheriff of Lowndes County 3 terms from 1988-2000.
He retired in 2000 and enjoyed traveling with his wife and following the sports activities of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jim Kitchens, Tim Hudson, Butch Howard, Allen Greenhaw, Brantley Prescott and Scott Atkins.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Judge Peggy Phillips, Cassie Neal, staff of Trinity Healthcare and Past & Present employees of Lowndes County Sheriff's Department.
