Blair was born on April 21, 1944 in Edmonton, Canada and grew up in Penticton, British Columbia. While in high school he obtained the distinction of Queen Scout, the Canadian equivalent of Eagle Scout. He attended the University of Alberta where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. He received his medical degree from the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine in 1968. Dr. McIver and his family then moved to Maui, Hawaii where they lived for several years before relocating to Columbus in 1987, and establishing permanent roots.  He was a respected member of the medical community and practitioner of anesthesia for over 40 years with 27 of those at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle. Known as “B” by his grandchildren, he was a very devoted and involved grandfather. He loved the beach and spent many days enjoying the coast with Rusty and his family. He will be remembered for his wisdom, compassion, generosity, and gentle kindness.
