D R. JAMES HUNT

Dr. James William Hunt, age 96, of Columbus, MS, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2021, at The Claiborne at Adelaide of Starkville, MS.  A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at 1:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church , 320 0 Bluecutt Rd., Columbus, MS 39705. Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory, 903 College St. is in charge of arrangements.

Born December 16, 1924, Dr. Hunt served courageously in the US Army during WWII, where as a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.  Dr Hunt was proud of his military service , as well as his legacy as an educator and professor of special education at Mississippi University for Women. In retirement, Dr Hunt authored several books and articles. ‎

Dr. James Hunt was first and foremost a family man, dearly loved, whose passing will be greatly mourned. Survivors include his beloved wife Jane Stewart Hunt ; daughter Elizabeth Neil and her husband Nelson of Falls Church, VA ; son Professor William Hunt of Atlanta, GA ; step - son Dean Stewart and his wife Teresa of Starkvill e; step - daughter Mollye Faulkner and her husband Skip of Columbia Falls, MT ; step - son Lawrence Stewart of Hendersonville, NC ; brother Thomas Hunt and his wife Jean of Clinton, MS ; sisters Lou Lyon of Laurel, MS, and Peggy Pendarvis of AZ ; and grandchildren Lauren Ranks, Mark Huse, Owen Hallisey Hunt, Roger Daniel Hunt, and Jeremy Stewart, as well as great grandchildren, nieces , nephews, cousins and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife Allie Raney Hunt.
